Product Description
Attracts & Traps Squash Vine Borers!
The mature Squash Vine Borer (Melittia cucurbitae) is a stout dark gray moth with 'hairy' red-orange hind legs, opaque front wings, and clear hind wings with dark veins. Squash Vine Borer Moths are often mistaken for bees or wasps due to their movement around plants during the daytime and colorful markings. Plants are affected when their offspring develop and begin to feed inside stalks which harms foliage, eventually migrating to the main stem where massive damage is incurred.
Squash Vine Borer Moths overwinter as a full grown larva or a pupa one to two inches below the soil surface, these larvae develop and pupate in the early months of spring. Mature moths begin to emerge as plants break ground and will continue flight through mid-August in most regions.
Mature Squash Vine Borer moths lay small brown eggs individually on leaf stalks and vines, which hatch in seven to 10 days. The newly hatched white-cream colored larvae will immediately bore into stems and restart the cycle of plant damage. These larvae will feed for 14 to 30 days before exiting the stem to pupate in the soil, pupa are dark brown, shiny and have tapered ends.
VivaGrow Squash Vine Borer traps include a pheromone to naturally lure mature moths to a sticky surface where they cannot escape, keeping them from being able to produce larvae which feed on and damage plants. 100% safe for pets, non toxic.

Dynamite!
Extremely effective. I can't believe how many borers got caught as fast as they did. Really incredible. 2 traps lasted all season - we did not put them out simultaneously. We deployed the second of the two traps after the first one was full of borer moths.

Sticky!
REally sticky glue. Not sure what kind of bugs are in there. These should be on PRIME for Amazon but they are not. Why not?

Better deal
Got these from Walmart the first time. They were good so we are back to get them here form now on. The price is considerably more reasonable if you purchase directly and especially if you wait for a sale code (hint: major holidays they usually do this).

Save the squash plants
These bugs are CREEPY. We did not know how many we had until we started using these vivatraps in 2017. The moths are gross and mean looking. They need to be put outside a little bit early so they first ones get caught right away. They mate fast.
